Belonging is the sense that confirms we are valued members of a bigger group, whether it be a community, society, or nation.

A sense of belonging brings meaning and purpose into people’s lives.

A sense of belonging is essential. It is one of the most critical human capital issues. Psychologists rank it up there with our need for love and acceptance.

We cannot separate the importance of a sense of belonging from our physical and mental health. When we belong, we feel protected. We can then go out in the world and cope with far relative ease to life’s challenges.

The need to belong is universal and fundamental. And so, focusing on it can draw in everyone to address our shared humanity and build a bridge to greater empathy and inclusion, especially for the most marginalized members.

Humans feel a sense of belonging when they feel they are seen, connected, supported and proud of themselves.

Members of any group with high belonging scores are far more likely to be engaged and loyal and promote their country, society, community or any affiliated group. To feel a strong sense of belonging inspires passion and creativity.

While lacking a sense of belonging can be challenging, building it is crucial for healing and galvanizing people.

Representation matters, so we are here to help build a strong sense of belonging – and, ultimately, a society we all want to live in.
